Mundelein official: cannabis license for Bank of America building already issued; neighbors express concern
Summary
Residents asked the village board about a proposed cannabis store at an unused Bank of America building; an acting official said the board has already issued the license, while residents urged relocation to an industrial area.
Residents asked the Mundelein Village Board whether a proposed cannabis retail business at the former Bank of America building had been approved. Acting presiding official responded that the board had already voted and “issued that license.”
At the public-comment microphone, Joseph Schwann, a Mundelein resident, said many neighbors were unhappy with a retail cannabis store on the village’s main commercial corridor and asked why the business could not be placed in an industrial district “so the children aren’t there when they go shopping at the Target store.” Resident Gaurav Chaudhry added during public comment that the safety of families in the area was a concern, saying, “...the safety of our families, it's it's concerning for all of us.”
The acting presiding official told the audience that while conversation about the matter may continue, there would be no further board action on the item that evening because the license had already been issued. The board did not discuss moving the license or reversing the action during the meeting.
