The Lorraine Civil Service Commission on July 22 approved three municipal appointments: Candy Cummins to a secretary position in the Building Division and Robert Bosch and Derek Allen as Laborer 1 in the Streets Division of the Lorraine Public Property Department.

Commissioner Victor Tack moved and Commissioner Joseph Smith seconded each appointment; both motions passed by voice vote.

Safety Service Director Kerian introduced the request to appoint a secretary in the Building, Housing and Planning Department after a prior secretary resigned to take another job. Miss McHugh spoke in support of Candy Cummins, describing her typing skills, Excel ability, filing experience and customer-service capacity; she said there were about 10 applicants and three to four interviewees and that interviewers reached consensus on Cummins. Commissioner Tack moved to approve Cummins to the secretary position per the Ohio Administrative Code citation presented; Commissioner Smith seconded and the motion passed.

For the Streets Division appointments, Miss Garcia described the recruitment process: four applicants were interviewed by four interviewers and Robert Bosch and Derek Allen rose to the top. Garcia said Bosch has background in construction, concrete and landscaping; Allen had worked seasonally in the Oberlin street department for three seasons doing similar duties. Commissioner Smith moved to approve both appointments to Laborer 1 under the Ohio Administrative Code citation given to the commission; Commissioner Tack seconded and the motion passed by voice vote.
