Chief Lark updated the Mundelein Village Board on the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) on Jan. 27, saying CERT volunteers logged 1,842 hours in 2024 and that 32 members contributed to that total.
Chief Lark recounted that CERT volunteers assisted after the February tornado, supporting the American Red Cross shelter, providing translation at the multi-agency resource center (MARC), staffing blood drives and community days and assisting with traffic control. He said the team is emphasizing sheltering-related training ahead of the tornado season.
The chief introduced a hybrid training class of 19 new members, noting roughly half are Spanish-speaking; he also read the names of seven newly added members since 2022 and said the village expects the CERT roster to grow to about 49 members by summer.
