Council accepts ODOT safety project to add high‑visibility markings and flashing crosswalk devices

City council unanimously authorized the safety service director to accept and enter into an agreement with the Ohio Department of Transportation for a high‑visibility pavement‑marking and RRFB (rapid‑flashing beacon) systemic safety project. A city representative said the police department identified approximately 20 intersections as high danger for pedestrians and the project will include high‑visibility paint at those crossings. Two specific crossing locations were noted for flashing crosswalk signs at First and Pearl and Third and Grove; council also discussed installing a full HAWK signal at a location similar to the signal at Lakeview Park. Councilmembers asked whether the project covers particular school crossings; staff said the current round is focused on South Lorain and was driven by a recent pedestrian fatality at Eighth and Broadway, but the city can evaluate other crossings in later rounds. Council approved the ordinance and the agreement unanimously.
