On March 11, 2025, the Lorain Civil Service Commission approved revisions to two job descriptions: Motor Equipment Operator 1 and Motor Equipment Operator 2 in the Streets Division of the Lorain Public Property Department.
The revisions remove or clarify language that had stated an automatic step promotion from Operator 1 to Operator 2 after five years. Laurie, a staff member reviewing the descriptions, told commissioners the step increase language had been added because that was the assumption, "but then the union did not negotiate that in the new contract. So that step increase is, in fact, not happening." The staff recommendation was to remove the automatic step language so the descriptions match current contractual terms.
A commission member asked whether that was the only change; staff confirmed it was the sole substantive edit. The Commission moved and seconded approval and voted to adopt the revised job descriptions during the meeting.
The meeting record lists the request as submitted by the Safety-Service Director. No additional amendments or follow-up tasks were recorded during the public meeting.
