Board pledges $2,000 to help Caroline FFA students attend national convention

The Caroline County Board of Supervisors approved a $2,000 donation Tuesday to the Caroline FFA chapter to assist five students attending the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis Oct. 28–Nov. 1.
Kobe Southworth spoke during public comment on behalf of the care Caroline FFA chapter and described the national convention as an educational leadership opportunity. The students and chapter adviser said the group had raised about $1,000 so far toward an approximate $5,000 total cost ($1,000 per student) and planned additional local fundraisers, including an event at Tractor Supply.
Following public comment, a supervisor moved that the board provide half the requested funds; the motion was seconded and carried on a voice vote. The board recorded the contribution during the public‑comment period. No county appropriation beyond the recorded disbursement was requested at this meeting.
The contribution is a one‑time donation to help cover travel, lodging and registration expenses for participating students. Board members encouraged the students and the chapter to report back on their experience after the national event.
