Crafton to acquire southern Baker Acres Trail parcel from Honeywell using donated funds

Crafton Borough Council on Aug. 14 approved a resolution authorizing the borough to purchase the southern portion of the Baker Acres Trail from Honeywell Corp. for $5,000 plus closing fees. A council member said an anonymous donor provided the $5,000 gift to cover the purchase price; the borough will pay closing costs and related fees.
The parcel—formerly part of the Pittsburgh Railways/Pitway Trolley Company right-of-way—was described by staff as the only remaining strip of land along the trail that the borough does not already own. Manager told council staff hope to close the acquisition the following week.
Resolution 2025-16 authorizes acquisition of the property identified on Allegheny County land records as Block and Lot 68-L-275 for public park and recreation purposes. Council voted to approve the purchase; members noted the small net fiscal impact for the borough because of the donation, and said acquiring the strip will remove a remaining ownership gap along the trail.
Council directed staff to complete closing steps and record the parcel for public-park use.
