The City Council voted 5-0 to award a $330,272 contract to Greater Georgia Contracting Inc. to build a 60-by-36-foot metal storage building at Dobbs Creek Recreation Center, City staff said. The project will be paid from SPLOST 8 funds allocated for the recreation center.
City staff said the building will provide space for sports and maintenance equipment, keep items out of high-traffic areas and allow easier access from the basketball courts during event setup and teardown. “This storage building will provide much needed space to house sports and maintenance equipment,” Jeremy, Parks and Recreation staff, told the council.
The award followed a bid process that produced five proposals: Cooper and Company General Contractors Inc., $1,099,746; AHC Contracting, $610,000; Legacy Design Development, $422,216.19; Big Sky Construction Service Inc., $420,000; and Greater Georgia Contracting Inc., $330,272. The council approved the low bid on a motion that passed unanimously.
City staff described the proposed siting as behind the recreation center near the existing dumpster area; the building will occupy about nine parking spaces. Staff said the structure will be insulated and divided internally so maintenance supplies can be stored on one side and program equipment on the other. Planned interior fixtures include plumbing hookups for a washer and dryer, a bathroom, heating and air conditioning, and roll-up doors for court-side access. Shelving was not included in the initial build, but staff said shelving could be purchased or installed later as needed.
On timeline, staff estimated about five months from award to completion—roughly two months for design and three months for factory construction and on-site installation. Council members asked for location and timeline clarifications before moving the contract to a vote.
