County commissioners heard a report from the southern regional planning commission, were briefed on a solar-siting application, and approved two building permits for properties in the county.
A staff representative told commissioners the village of Don Gola completed a first round of demolitions and had begun a second round pending owner approvals. The report also noted meetings with Ballston about potential projects, a quarterly report on the village of Compton’s sewer system improvements, and a notice of award for what the transcript identifies as a “wearable flight fire station rehabilitation and construction grant.” The planning representative said the next regional planning commission meeting will be Sept. 9 at 5:30 p.m. in Owen.
On permit matters the board recorded approvals for two parcels: parcel number 0518033152 on Crow Lane for George Vernon — described in the record as a new coal barn with no subdivision — and parcel number 0515032321 at 5 Willow Lane in Anna for Hugo Flores — described as a new single-family home with no subdivision. Planning staff recommended approval for both permits, and commissioners registered “yes” votes during roll call.
Planning staff also updated commissioners on a county solar applicant. Staff said initial submittals from the applicant appeared oriented toward building permits but lacked required siting information. "I finally got the comments back from the lawyer, and I started working on putting those together into a format to give to the applicant," planning staff said. The staff member said they would instruct the applicant on additional materials required for siting review and noted the need for submission of siting documents before building-permit review could proceed.
No formal approvals or denials regarding the solar application were recorded at the meeting; staff described this as an administrative step in the review process rather than a board decision.
The approvals and updates are routine land-use and permitting items. The county did not attach conditions or amendments to the two building-permit approvals on the record at this meeting; planning staff will continue review and follow up on procedural items for the solar siting application.
