The Robertson County School Board on Aug. 11 approved construction items for Joe Burns High School: a guaranteed maximum price (GMP) of $253,465.02 for an agriculture barn and the final approval of a campus construction project to build a baseball hitting facility.
The GMP for the Joe Burns agriculture building was presented as the district’s requested authorization for construction work tied to an ISM grant. Jamie Spencer of Hewlett Spencer, the district’s architect/representative, attended the meeting and provided an update on related projects, including that East Robertson’s ag project had already been approved and was undergoing preliminary site work.
The board voted 6-0 to approve the GMP of $253,465.02 for the Joe Burns ag building. That same vote approved the Joe Burns High baseball hitting facility as a campus construction project; board members said community volunteers and Brown Builders had prepared approximately seven acres of site work and the district expects the hitting facility to proceed.
Dr. Willoughby and representatives from the Joe Burns athletic booster club were present for questions about the location and project details. Board members praised community involvement in preparing the site and noted the projects are part of the district’s broader construction plan.
Board members approved both items without recorded amendments and directed staff to continue project scheduling and contractor coordination. The East Robertson ag barn — a separate agenda item from a prior meeting — was noted as already approved and in early site work.
No final contract signatures or construction start dates beyond preliminary site work were specified at the meeting; staff said they would proceed with contractor coordination per the approved GMP and campus construction application.
