Stevensville police report steady event policing, new officer in field training and a promotion

Stevensville — The Stevensville Police Department reported activity for July and recent community events to the Town Council on Aug. 14, including staffing updates and public-safety statistics.
A police department representative told the council the department handled 85 calls for service in July, made one arrest and issued eight traffic citations. The department reported five traffic accidents in July, including several over the preceding weekend, and noted increases in monthly traffic-accident figures. The department also said it recorded one theft (investigated and solved), two sex-assault investigations, one fraud, two criminal mischiefs and six threats or intimidation calls.
The department thanked the Ravalli County Sheriff's Office for providing horseback patrol during a recent community event that aided public safety.
The representative said a new officer is in the field training program in roughly his sixth or seventh week and has a tentative academy class date in January at the Montana Law Enforcement Academy in Helena. The council also learned that Kenny Franklin was promoted to sergeant; the representative acknowledged Franklin in the meeting.
No formal action was taken on the report. The department's monthly activity report was included in the meeting packet, and council members were given the opportunity to ask questions.
