Stevensville council approves biweekly claims but tables one attorney-related charge

Council member Barker moved to approve the biweekly claims, rescinded the original motion, and then re-presented a motion to approve claims 19818, 19820, 19822 through 19845, 19847 through 19854, and 19856 through 19871. Council member Greg seconded the motion; the council voted to approve the claims as amended.
Council members discussed several items on the claims list before the vote, including charges for docking stations for police laptops, multiple stamp orders that were split across departmental accounts, donated pool chairs paid through the town, and hardware purchases split between departments. Council members also asked about an MMIA liability deductible of $1,500 listed as claim 19846. The council determined the matter involved a personal issue and discussed that Montana law (MCA) permits closed-session discussion of certain personnel or privacy matters. Because the claim raised personnel/privacy questions, the council moved to table claim 19846 for later, possibly closed-session, consideration. Council member Smith moved to table claim 19846; Council member Greg seconded the motion and the motion to table passed.
Other claims discussed included a public records request handled by the town attorney (Overstreet Law Group) and a bill connected to Birch Lane that the town intends to bill back to a property owner. For the towing/transport of the sweeper (claim 19828), council members confirmed the contractor had later returned a $600 discount to the town and that the net payment reflected the refund.
The council instructed staff to follow up on the attorney-related claim and said the claim would be discussed after attorney review or at a future meeting if required.
