Park High student Ignacio Tellez details Key Club service and district duties

Ignacio Tellez, a junior at Park High School and lieutenant governor for District 1 of the Wisconsin-Upper Michigan District Key Club, told attendees at a public meeting that Key Club is a student-led service organization and described recent activities and his district duties.
"Key Club is an international student led organization that builds leadership through service for others and has over 265,000 members worldwide," Tellez said, explaining the organization’s scope and his role. He described his chapter’s Fall Fest fundraiser, which included a chili contest, trunk-or-treat, pumpkin and face painting and collaboration with the school jazz ensemble. "In the end, we raised $500 to Wolfgang Bridal Shelter," he said.
Tellez summarized the district leadership event that helped shape his bid for lieutenant governor. He said the Wisconsin-Upper Michigan District convention is a three-day leadership conference with workshops, keynote speakers and impromptu speeches. He described the prerequisites for running for lieutenant governor — being an active member, delivering a speech before division members and being elected by delegates — and said he wrote his speech the night before deciding to run.
As lieutenant governor, Tellez said he serves "as a liaison for all high school chapters in my division into the district board, writing monthly newsletters to my division, and organizing and emceeing the new district convention." He added the role can be demanding. "This role can be daunting at times, just because there's so many responsibilities," he said, but said the position gave him a stronger sense of responsibility to secure resources and support for chapters.
Mr. Jeff Wilkins, Key Club advisor, praised Tellez’s service and local support. "Your dedication to that service and making Park High School a better place is commendable," Wilkins said and thanked Kiwanis West and a local Kiwanis liaison, Marybeth Silke, for their backing.
The presentation was informational; no formal actions, votes or policy decisions were taken during the remarks. Tellez said he and other student leaders are preparing the next district convention theme, seeking sponsorships and supporting chapter needs going forward.
