Summary
The court approved a resolution certifying a county grant to Community Action Corporation of South Texas to support its home-delivered meals program for seniors; the grant amount discussed included $28,000 in the resolution text and $25,000 noted in court.
Jim Wells County commissioners voted Aug. 11 to approve a resolution authorizing a county grant to Community Action Corporation of South Texas to support the Texas Feeding Texas home-delivered meals grant program for 2026.
Robert Salazar, a representative of Community Action Corporation of South Texas, told the court the agency serves seniors through congregate and home-delivered meals and that, between Oct. 2024 and July 2025, the organization served 610 residents in Jim Wells County and delivered nearly 89,000 home-delivered meals.
Salazar presented a draft resolution that certifies the county has made a grant to Community Action and has approved the organization’s accounting system for compliance with the Texas grant management standards. The resolution text read that the county would continue assistance “in the amount of $28,000 you paid and used between 01/01/2026 and 12/31/2026.” A county official then stated on the record that the amount to be provided by the county is $25,000.
A commissioner moved to approve the resolution and the motion carried.
Why it matters: the county’s certification and local grant are required under the Texas Feeding Texas grant program rules for the nonprofit to be eligible to receive state grant funds that supplement local senior-nutrition services.
What’s next: the county will provide the certified grant and the agency will submit required accounting documentation to support the state grant application.
