Board appoints Dennis Bachman to District 5 seat; approves county highway commissioner appointment

Chippewa County supervisors appointed Dennis Bachman to the vacant District 5 county board seat and confirmed Chris Elstrand as the county’s new highway commissioner at the Aug. 12 meeting.
Bachman was nominated by the county board chair and confirmed in a roll-call vote of 17–1. After the vote Bachman took the oath of office in the meeting room. During a brief introduction Bachman said he is CEO of Citizens Connected in New Auburn and plans to retire later in the year.
The board also approved the administrator’s appointment of Chris Elstrand as highway commissioner, with an expected start date of Aug. 18. The administration praised Elstrand’s experience, noting a long transportation career and internal experience with the county’s highway department. The appointment carried unanimously, 18–0.
Both appointments are reflected in the board’s official records and the board continued into a scheduled closed session later in the meeting.
