Police and emergency services report July activity; ambulance open house and town events scheduled

Police and emergency-service leaders provided monthly activity updates and announced upcoming community events. The police department reported 639 calls in July, 116 selected-enforcement traffic details, 108 motor-vehicle stops, 22 suspicious incidents, 19 motor-vehicle crashes and 23 burglar alarms. The chief also announced the birth of Officer Milordo’s child on July 30 and extended congratulations. The ambulance corps did not provide monthly statistics in the transcript but announced an open house at the ambulance building at 7 p.m. next Tuesday for anyone interested in joining or visiting; ambulances are expected to be outside for viewing. The fire department reported July activity including emergency calls and nonemergency drills and noted 41 inspections that month from fire-prevention work. The mayor said Town Day is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 6, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. (rain date Sept. 7) and that a Sept. 11 ceremony will be held the evening of Sept. 10 at Moore and on the park to honor victims; the town will unveil and place on permanent display a piece of iron from the World Trade Center obtained from the New York City Fire Department. The mayor credited the fire department and DPW staff for obtaining and arranging the artifact’s display.
