The JUHSD Board of Trustees approved three new job descriptions so the district can directly hire if service demand increases. Director Luhan presented the descriptions as preparatory steps; each was approved by voice vote with the board saying “Aye.”
The teacher-of-the-visually-impaired job description would allow the district to employ a teacher who supports access to curriculum, develops skills for visually impaired students and helps implement assistive technology; staff noted the district currently contracts for that service because current need is less than 0.2 full-time equivalent but the job description would allow hiring if demand rises.
The school-based physical therapist description would allow direct employment of a therapist to provide therapy services for students with physical disabilities, motor impairments or developmental delays; staff again noted the district currently contracts for under 0.2 FTE.
The INSPIRE health educator job description was presented in connection with a grant awarded to the local youth health center (referred to in staff remarks as the INSPIRE grant to the youth health center). The health educator positions funded by the grant would provide community and classroom health education and co-facilitate youth leadership development.
Each job description was moved and seconded and approved by a voice vote at the meeting. Board members thanked staff for “thinking ahead” while noting the positions are contingent on future need and grant funding.
