Superintendent reports enrollment, staffing and summer projects as schools reopen

He reported 835 new and returning employees and said the district welcomed 34 new staff members and 25 new support staff this year.
Several capital and facility projects were completed over the summer, officials said: roofing work at six schools, interior renovations at Westbrook and Henking (specials rooms), paving and asphalt at Henking, a new outdoor learning space for preschool at Westbrook (funded by the Preschool for All grant), and a new playground at Springman. Administrators noted the district integrated student-supply purchases into registration this year and moved to managing its own financial investments rather than routing them through township trustees.
The district reported professional development and curricular work over the summer, including phonics pilot training for K-3 teachers, an ELA pilot selection for grades 6-8 with associated professional learning, multiple administrator and teacher book-study sessions, and nine student programs serving 447 multilingual learners. The superintendent announced a new district communications platform, ParentSquare, intended to centralize parent communication.
Dr. Deli also introduced new building leaders and administrators joining the district, including Lisa Engel as principal at Springman Middle School and several assistant principals in student services and student life roles at other buildings.
The superintendent closed with an anecdote recognizing a student act of community kindness that received local media attention and said the district theme for the year is "D34 Cares."
