Revere School Committee moves to form working group after 130‑page safety audit

The Revere School Committee on Aug. 19 discussed a 130-page school safety audit and agreed to form a working group to review recommendations and produce a plan for each school. The audit, which the committee said included an overview and school-by-school breakdowns, was presented to the safety subcommittee on Aug. 3 and Aug. 13.

Why it matters: Committee leaders said the audit identified both "easy fixes" and items requiring longer-term budgeting and planning; the work will guide safety investments and interagency coordination.

Committee member Mister Caggiano (safety subcommittee chair) said the audit was attended by guidepost representatives, district administration, school committee members, the fire chief, the chief of police, the mayor and a city councilor. The committee reported the audit provided detailed suggestions and that the subcommittee held executive session to review school-specific material for security reasons.

Members said the next step is to create a working committee including school committee representatives, fire, police and district administration to examine the audit recommendations in detail. That working group will identify immediate actions, items that should be budgeted in the next budget season and longer-term measures. The committee said copies of the overview and presentation will be provided; school-specific reports are being restricted for security reasons and can be reviewed in a district office with inventoried copies.

The committee emphasized no major decisions will be made until recommendations are presented to the full committee. Members praised the cross‑agency approach and said they expect a presentation to the full school committee after the working group's review.

No vote on implementation funding took place at the meeting.
