Police Chief Smith announced the Fuquay Varina Police Department received accreditation through the North Carolina Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (NCLEA) and described it as part of a trio of professional certifications that also include CALEA and a North Carolina League of Municipalities risk assessment.
Chief Smith said the NCLEA process required review and compliance with a set of professional standards, proof of compliance, updated policy and a site evaluation that included staff and community interviews. He said the NCLEA accreditation was completed in eight months and 21 days and that the department was the tenth agency in North Carolina to receive this accreditation.
Smith thanked accreditation specialist Rosie Wagner and personnel who supported the effort and noted that NCLAIA recertification occurs every three years (CALEA every four years). Mayor Massingale and commissioners praised the department’s efforts and presented a mayor’s coin in recognition.
