Fuquay-Varina’s Town Board on Tuesday designated HH Architecture as the preferred firm to design the South Park Community Center renovation and authorized the town manager or designee to negotiate scope and fee, with CPL named as the second-ranked firm if negotiations fail.
Parks and Recreation Director Jonathan Cox said the town solicited qualifications on June 9 and received 13 responses. Four firms were interviewed on Aug. 15 and staff scored submissions based on criteria in the request for qualifications. Cox recommended HH Architecture as best qualified citing municipal community center experience, assigned staff availability and demonstrated understanding of recreation center design. He told the board that the FY-26 budget includes $200,000 for project design.
Cox said staff will negotiate a scope and fee consistent with industry norms and bring negotiated terms back to the board for approval; if negotiations with HH Architecture are unsuccessful, staff will move to negotiations with CPL. The board moved, seconded and approved the designation and authorization for the manager to negotiate.
