Council advances gas-franchise ordinance for west-side service; one more reading scheduled

Staff said representatives of the vendor had participated in prior meetings and planned to attend the final reading on Sept. 16. The council did not debate substantive provisions at the Sept. 2 meeting and deferred final action to the upcoming meeting.
Why it matters: The franchise, if adopted at final reading, would authorize a private gas utility to use public rights-of-way to construct and operate gas facilities and deliver service to new areas of Elgin; council members were informed that vendor representatives would be present for the final reading.
