The Waukee City Council approved plans and awarded a construction contract to Caliber Concrete LLC of Adair for the Waco Place widening project, the council recorded at its Aug. 4 meeting. The apparent low bid was $202,170.14. Staff said the project will complete a missing lane section about 1,500 feet south of University Avenue, extend a trail that currently terminates at the north end of the project, install storm sewer and associated structures, perform grading and restore landscaping. Staff described the scope as including about 60 square yards of 8‑inch pavement, modified subbase, trail pavement and landscape reinstallation negotiated with adjacent property owners. The project is included in the city's CIP with a $400,000 budget; staff cited an overall project estimate of roughly $315,000 and said the low bid came in well under the engineer's estimate. Interim completion is set for November 2025, with seeding and planting completion dates in May 2026, staff said. A public hearing was held with no public comment. Staff recommended the award to Caliber Concrete based on the low bid and prior satisfactory work on trail and park projects. The council voted to approve the plans and award the contract.
