District outlines after‑school, Saturday and arts programs; seeks coaches for fall season

The presenter said the program will begin in September at six schools and expand to additional sites later in the fall.
The department reviewed arts and cultural offerings (dance folklórico, mariachi, marimba, Aztec dance and other options) and said Saturday classes and some specialized offerings will be hosted at a subset of campuses. The presenter discussed a district Tech Challenge focused on science and technology for students in grades 4–6; registration is open for a limited number of participating schools.
Staff also asked the council to help recruit volunteer coaches for fall sports that will include flag football and soccer. The presenter said stipends will be offered: coaches for grades 1–4 are eligible for $1,000 and coaches for grades 5–6 for $1,500 for the season. “Entrenadores de primero, segundo, tercero y cuarto, puedes recibir un setting de 1000 dólares ... y luego los de quinto y sexto es 1500,” the presenter said.
No formal commitments or budget approvals were taken at the meeting; staff requested that interested coaches or parents sign up when application links are posted in early September. Staff also pointed to the ElCAP timeline included in the meeting packet and said the board will finalize district calendar dates for parent councils later in the year.
