Council approves Sleep Inn alcohol license and Fall Fest temporary permit with contingencies

The Verona Common Council on Aug. 25 approved two public-safety related items: a Class B fermented malt beverage license for Sleep Inn and Suites at 131 Horizon Drive and a temporary Class B fermented malt beverage and wine permit and special-event permit for the Verona Area Chamber of Commerce’s Fall Fest on Sept. 26, 2025.
The Sleep Inn license approval is contingent on a final inspection. The Fall Fest permit allows beer and wine sales at a multi-activity event that includes hayrides, pumpkin painting, a petting zoo, outdoor movie and a farmer’s market; the chamber will check IDs and require wristbands for alcohol. Staff recommended approval but attached contingencies: the fire department must approve the planned fire pits, the city must receive a certificate of insurance, and the police department requested a dedicated officer on site from 4 to 8 p.m. for public-safety coverage.
Alderperson Hoekst moved both approvals; council members voted in favor after confirming the contingencies would be met.
