Director Witt told the board Sept. 2 that the village remains “in limbo” on two Saunders Road projects. The village is awaiting confirmation from the Illinois Department of Transportation that the contract has been awarded to Builders Paving for the roadway work. Separately, the contractor for the water-main break is coordinating a start date with the village.
Witt said the village will request a two-week notice before work begins so staff can notify every Saunders Road resident and post schedule updates on the village website. She said the contractor has proposed a phased approach that would keep half the street open while work proceeds on the opposite side and use steel plates for short-term crossings; plates could remain in place for one to two weeks while backfill cures.
Trustee Grama asked whether the village anticipates closing Saunders Road for two days; Witt said the most disruptive scenario would be a two-day closure but the village is working to avoid a full shutdown and instead keep the road open one lane at a time during critical crossings.
The director described the village's goal as minimizing resident disruption by using flaggers and alternating single-lane traffic during the portions of work that cross the roadway. The village will provide regular updates as the contractor sets a start date and the IDOT award is confirmed.
