City to add leaf-vacuum truck, hosts public event Sept. 23 to show new pickup process

City Administrator Aulik announced that a new leaf vacuum truck will arrive in Verona around Sept. 19 and that the Department of Public Works and Verona Public Library will host a demonstration event during Wisconsin Stormwater Week at the library on Sept. 23 from 6 to 7 p.m.
"This will improve efficiency of leaf pickup, but also change where people place their leaves," the administrator said, noting that keeping leaves out of streets reduces phosphorus in stormwater. Residents should expect a mailing with details about changes to fall leaf pickup.
Alder Swanson asked whether the city would crowdsource a name for the new truck; staff said they were unsure but receptive to the idea. The announcement emphasized both operational efficiency and environmental benefit.
