Edinburg approves interlocal agreements for road work, airport hangars and EDC funds $10,000 for film festival

Council authorized the city manager to execute an interlocal agreement with Hidalgo County Precinct 4 for improvements to Schoonier Road from North Jackson Road to Hohen Road and to Hohen Road from Schoonier Road to University Drive. Mayor and council members thanked Hidalgo County Commissioner Eli Torres for partnering with the city on the project.
The council also authorized an interlocal agreement between the city and the Edinburg Economic Development Corporation (EDC) to support hangar development at the South Texas International Airport, saying the hangars are expected to support aviation activity at the airport. Separately, the council approved an EDC sponsorship of $10,000 for the 11th annual South Texas International Film Festival, which the city manager said this year received 246 film submissions from more than 21 countries and will host over 45 filmmakers and free public screenings at the ACE Center.
In public-safety contracting, council authorized an interlocal agreement to accept canine Leo as an asset transfer from Hidalgo County Precinct 4 to the Edinburg Police Department.
