Commissioners seek cameras and enforcement after repeated vandalism at county parks

County commissioners and staff raised repeated vandalism and vehicle damage at county parks, urging a mix of surveillance, enforcement and community outreach.

Commissioner Blunt reported incidents at Susie King Taylor Park and other park sites where vandals removed gate hardware, drove vehicles on newly seeded areas and damaged turf. "They pull the wire off the pole that it's on, they break the eye and then they go in and do whatever they want to," Blunt said; park staff reported grainy trail‑camera images of suspects and one vehicle that had its tag removed. Commissioners requested additional trail cameras already used on development sites and asked staff to work with sheriff's deputies on patrol scheduling and prosecution of identified offenders.

Parks staff said trail cameras are in use and provided some images, though prosecutions are challenging when identifying details are obscured. Commissioners asked staff to continue evidence gathering, increase patrol notifications, and consider grant or budget options to purchase additional cameras for regular deployment at vulnerable facilities.
