School committee approves 1.0 FTE ABA-trained paraprofessional for middle school

The Hopkinton School Committee approved the hire of one full-time (1.0 FTE) paraprofessional at the C level with applied behavior analysis (ABA) training for the middle school, district leaders said Aug. 14. The position was requested after administrators identified an unanticipated student need and will be funded through grant resources identified by central office staff.
The middle school principal presented the request and said the position was not part of the FY26 budget submission and was identified after further student review. The district reported that available grant funds will cover the cost; the central office representative confirmed the funding source and said the hire is the most fiscally responsible approach to meet student needs.
The committee voted to approve the position by roll call. Administrators said they do not expect staffing shortages to impede filling the role and that current paraprofessional vacancies are minimal. The new paraprofessional will be assigned to the middle school and the district will proceed with recruitment and onboarding.
