School committee accepts two donations: $2,500 display and $1,000 violin

The Hopkinton School Committee voted Aug. 14 to accept two in-kind donations: a touch-display panel valued at approximately $2,500 for Marathon Elementary and a violin valued at $1,000 for the middle school music program.
Marathon Elementary: Marathon won a station-based contest hosted by Boston-area sports radio 98.5 The Sports Hub and was offered an Aker Touch U display panel. The district said the vendor is a familiar technology partner and that the unit is portable so staff could use it in classrooms or move it for student interaction. The donation was presented by a school representative and the committee approved acceptance by roll call.
Middle school music: Craig Hay, subject-matter leader for music K–12, described a gift from town resident Kelly Hibbard: a violin valued at $1,000. Hay said the instrument will support the district’s string program—for example, by covering a student who forgets an instrument or while an instrument is being repaired. The committee approved the acceptance by roll call.
Both donations were accepted unanimously; the district will follow standard donation-acceptance procedures and incorporate the equipment into school inventories.
