Socorro ISD rises to B rating in state A–F accountability; district earns postsecondary distinction

Socorro ISD officials told the board on Aug. 20 that preliminary Texas A–F accountability ratings released Aug. 15 raised the district to a B (85) for 2025, up from an 83 in 2024. The district reported it has 18 A‑rated campuses (up from 12) and 162 campus distinction designations across the district.
Callie McBain, director for research and evaluation, said the district is the largest in Texas to earn the postsecondary distinction designation for 2025 and one of only three of the state’s 50 largest districts with that distinction. McBain said gains on STAAR at the approaches, meets and masters levels contributed to the postsecondary designation, with a 2% gain at the approaches level and 3% gains at the higher performance levels year over year.
McBain noted the 2025 ratings are preliminary; TEA opened a PEIMS submission window that may allow districts to add qualifying college-prep and industry‑based certification data, which could further improve final ratings due in December. Board members asked about supports for C campuses; McBain and other administrators described an educator support network, professional learning community contracts funded by Title II, and targeted campus interventions that the district said helped prior C campuses move to B in the last cycle.
No action was required on the ratings; staff presented the results and described ongoing intervention strategies for campuses with lower ratings.
