Student board members were introduced and gave reports Sept. 4 describing back-to-school events and student-led activities across the district.
Interim Superintendent Janice Adams introduced four student board members, three new and one returning. Representing Liberty High School, Rosada Sanchez Alcantar and Frida Silva Cortez described their school's recent assembly recognizing summer birthdays, student growth on spring NWEA assessments, and attendance celebrations. Rosada asked the community to participate in suicide prevention week events: "To highlight that important message, we would encourage everybody to wear purple or teal on Friday." The students also described planned field trips and a chalk-of-life event.
Benicia High School representatives Eisa Renteria (ASB volunteer commissioner) and Caroline Palat (junior class president; not present) reported on link crew training, freshman orientation, Panther Camp and upcoming homecoming activities including a tailgate and first home football game. Renteria encouraged community support for events and outlined upcoming dates for club fairs and homecoming preparation.
Board members thanked the student representatives and encouraged continued student voice. Several trustees remarked that student perspectives help the board make decisions that reflect real-time school experiences.
The student reports were descriptive; there were no board actions tied directly to these reports during the meeting.
