The Muskogee City Council approved the purchase of a 1,000 CFM jet-vac unit for the sanitary sewer department on Aug. 11 at a total cost of $98,468, staff said.
City staff said the unit will be bought through Sourcewell cooperative purchasing (contract no. 101221), which they said saved about 10% or roughly $10,000 off the purchase price. The presenter described the unit as a smaller trailer-based vacuum that can access tight spaces where the city's larger vacuum truck cannot operate without traversing private driveways.
The staff presentation said the equipment will be particularly useful for cleaning manholes in alleys and servicing more than 120 residential lift stations the city maintains. "A lot of them are close to the house, where we can't get them off the right of way. So that requires us to drive our 50,000 pound truck on someone's driveway. We're gonna end up breaking driveways," the presenter said, explaining the smaller truck will reduce that risk.
Council approved the purchase by roll call during the public works meeting; staff recommended approval and noted the purchase was already budgeted.
