Council approves $151,414 final payment for Smith Ferry detention pond; project finished under budget

The Muskogee City Council on Aug. 11 approved final payment of $151,414.45 to Cook Consulting LLC for the Smith Ferry Detention Pond project (project no. 2023007), city staff said.
City public works staff said the detention pond receives runoff from Smith Ferry Road and discharges into a channel to the south identified in the presentation as Sam Creek. "This project did conclude successfully. It was a $118,000 under budget," the city presenter said, explaining the contractor used hydroseeding in place of a slab saw and saved about $118,000.
The project includes a trickle channel to carry water from the inlet to the outfall structure, about 3,400 feet of four-strand fencing and roughly nine acres of pond area, staff said. The presenter recommended approval and answered questions from council members about the cost savings and the hydroseeding approach.
The council approved the payment by roll call. The motion passed with a unanimous vote of council members present.
The city listed the project as project number 2023007 and staff characterized the work as complete and within the revised budget, with the contractor credited for the primary cost savings. No additional conditions or follow-up tasks were recorded in the meeting minutes.
