The Carmel Unified School District board approved a resolution to reject bids for a proposed softball skills facility after the apparent low bidder withdrew and the remaining bid exceeded the district’s budget. Chief Operations Officer Dan Paul told the board that five contractors attended the mandatory bid walk, two contractors submitted bids on June or July 30, and the apparent low bidder later withdrew, leaving the sole remaining bid “significantly over budget.”
The board approved Resolution 205-13, rejecting the bids and authorizing staff to rebid the project. That outcome defers construction scheduling and requires the district to return with a new bid package for future board consideration.
Dan Paul said the district will rebid the project immediately and expect to bring the new bid results to the board at the next meeting. He framed the rejection as the fiscally prudent response after the low bidder withdrew and the remaining bid did not meet budget expectations.
The motion was made on the record and seconded; the record shows a unanimous roll-call approval with Board President Jason Remenzi, Board Clerk Jake Odello, Board Member Sarah Hines and Board Member Matt Glaser voting yes. The board had no public comments on the item. No amendments or alternative procurement approaches were approved during the meeting.
Next steps described by staff: prepare a revised bid package and post the project for rebid, then return the results for board review and potential award at a subsequent meeting.
