Park Commission discusses trailer parking, signage and enforcement at town park

Park Commission members on Aug. 21 discussed reserving morning hours for boat-trailer parking, improving signage, clarifying handicap spaces, and seeking cost estimates for paving and added trailer spaces. Commission members said trailer owners generally arrive in the morning and that a time window—roughly early morning through around noon—could be designated primarily for trailer parking, with general parking opening in the afternoon. Commissioners said effective public communication would be required, including signage and outreach via social media, local news or radio. Discussion focused on practical follow-up steps rather than an immediate vote. Commissioners asked staff to gather prices for paving the teardrop parking area, to assess whether additional handicap spaces or two to three trailer spots could be added, and to return with signage options. The group noted that parking violations would be ticketed rather than towed, and that the commission should review the town’s Park Rules and Regulations (section 210) to ensure any restrictions were enforceable. Commissioners also suggested bringing Joe (staff) into follow-up, and flagged that changes to rules likely would need to go to the selectmen if an ordinance revision is required. No formal motion to change hours or adopt an ordinance was recorded; the meeting produced direction to research costs, signage, and regulatory language.
