Livingston — The City Council voted 5-0 on Aug. 5 to adopt a resolution formally making maintenance of a "fully operational and effective" fire department a city priority and to direct staff to prioritize activities needed to keep the fire station open.
Council member RuPaul, who requested the item, said the resolution was intended to provide clear policy direction and speed up work to avoid a possible station closure in June of the following year. "Maintaining a fully operational and effective fire department is the top priority for the city," RuPaul said during debate, and asked the council to adopt the measure.
