Board approves transfer up to $13,000 from technology reserve to replace town computers

The Rangeley Board of Selectmen authorized the town manager to transfer up to $13,000 from the technology reserve to replace end-of-life computers on a planned five-year rotation. The town manager said the request covers laptops and desktops for staff and that some equipment may be recycled or sold if it retains residual value. He emphasized data protection: devices will either be wiped by the IT vendor or handled under the town's surplus disposition procedures. "That's something that I always handle with the IT company. They'll either wipe it or they'll remove it...we do handle it, as though there's confidential information on it," he said. Selectmen approved the transfer by motion; staff will identify any devices appropriate for surplus sale or redeployment and report back to the board if significant resale value is found. The transfer comes from an existing reserve balance and the manager said the town aims to replace devices due for refresh to maintain operations and security.
