Superintendent announces start‑of‑year schedules, elementary zone review and new cardiac‑response requirement

Elementary zone review The district has formed a committee to review elementary attendance zones with consultants and Tyler Technologies. Staff said consultants recently visited buildings, reviewed facilities with principals and examined enrollment and demographic trends and local town maps identifying expected building development. The first committee meeting is scheduled for Sept. 10; staff said monthly committee meetings will be timed to occur roughly a week before board meetings and that the goal is to present final recommendations to the board at its December meeting, with the possibility of a follow‑up in January if needed before registration opens.
Safety plans and cardiac response A board member noted a new state law, cited in the meeting as Disha’s Law, requires school districts to include cardiac emergency response plans in districtwide comprehensive safety plans. The superintendent said an initial draft of required language was prepared and will be reviewed with building administrators. Staff noted some provisions of the law take effect immediately, while others phase in through 2026; staff also said the district already has 34 automated external defibrillators (AEDs) located throughout district buildings and portable units available as of last year.
Operations and facilities The superintendent thanked operations and maintenance staff and custodians for summer work preparing classrooms and spaces for the new year, noting high summer temperatures during the work.
