Board renews PR contract, accepts donations and hears Maplewood enrollment, parks director to retire

The Ravenna School District Board of Education approved several consent and administrative items July 21, including a one‑year renewal of a public relations contract and recognition of community donations. The board approved the renewal of a contract with Full Spectrum Marketing for public relations services for the 2025–26 school year. The motion carried on a roll call vote with all listed members voting yes.
On the consent agenda, the board approved minutes from the June 23 business meeting, acceptance of gifts and donations and the regular monthly financial reports (bank reconciliation, budget status, cash position and check register). The board specifically thanked the Rotary Club of Ravenna for a donation of $800 that will support student summer events such as the district’s Back‑to‑School Bash.
Board members heard a Maplewood report from Mrs. Seaman noting that Maplewood enrollment totaled 788 students as of June 11, with approximately 361 seniors and 427 juniors; Ravenna was sending about 60 juniors to Maplewood as of that date. The report listed popular programs students selected: animal science, auto collision technology, carpentry, cosmetology, culinary, dental assisting, medical assisting, welding, robotics and computer technology.
The board also learned that Ravenna’s parks and recreation director, Judy Watkins, will retire Sept. 5; the position has been posted on the city’s website. Lastly, the board announced upcoming dates: a special board meeting Aug. 11, a Back‑to‑School Bash on Aug. 13 (5–7 p.m.), staff convocation on Aug. 15, teacher work day Aug. 18, first student day Aug. 19 (Safe for Students), and the next board meeting on Aug. 25 at 5:30 p.m.
The board entered executive session during the meeting for matters permitted under Ohio law — employment, compensation of a public employee and consideration of property purchase or sale where premature disclosure could harm the public interest — and then returned to public session and adjourned. The board noted that no action is taken during executive session.
