Ravenna board approves multiple administrative hires, accepts several resignations and retirements

The Ravenna School District Board of Education approved several personnel actions July 21, accepting multiple resignations and retirements and approving new administrative contracts. The board also approved a slate of certificated and classified personnel actions, supplemental coaching hires and extracurricular appointments.
The board voted to accept the retirement of Assistant Superintendent Mr. Smith and to accept resignations from Jessica Haines, director of student services, and Katrina Seaton Burwell, principal at Brown Middle School. The board then approved a three‑year contract for Sean Dougherty to serve as principal at Brown Middle School, effective Aug. 1, 2025, through July 31, 2028.
The board approved a one‑year contract for Gina Semsek as director of student services, effective Aug. 1, 2025, through July 31, 2026. The board also approved a one‑year contract for Rebecca Randolph as principal at West Main, effective Aug. 1, 2025, through July 31, 2026. Randolph was present at the meeting and was recognized by board members; the superintendent noted Randolph’s prior experience as a teacher and union leader in the district.
The board approved several certificated resignations: Natalie Gray (intervention specialist, Brown), Jessica Edwards (intervention specialist), Skylyn Martz (guidance counselor), Courtney O’Donnell (science teacher, Riverman High School), Alexis Kramer (intervention specialist, Williard), and Joshua Rubin (intervention specialist). It also approved limited one‑year contracts for several teachers and approved extended workday assignments for counselors and media specialists.
On supplemental and extracurricular staffing, the board approved employment of fall sport coaches, assistant coaches and athletic workers (clock managers, ticket takers, event coordinators and announcers) for the 2025–26 school year. The board recorded two abstentions on a motion approving assistant coaches: Mrs. Calhoun and Mrs. Dukes abstained; other members voted yes. All other personnel motions described at the meeting were approved by roll call.
Board members thanked departing employees and welcomed incoming administrators; the board’s personnel approvals were recorded by roll call with each motion carried as noted in the meeting minutes.
