Parks and events: The city closed the pool for the season; parks hosted a fundraiser with United Way and a well-attended USA Pickleball event. The Clarksburg Amphitheater and mini golf have had robust attendance; mini golf will continue through October, weather permitting. Staff thanked council and volunteers for assistance with the Italian Heritage Festival and noted the Black Heritage Festival is scheduled for the coming weekend.
Permits and taxes: The city reported 72 building permits in the most recent month with a total job cost just over $1,000,000 and roughly $13,000 in permit fees collected. In August the city collected just over $1,800,000 in business and occupation (B&O) taxes. The city reported 1,876 business licenses issued for the 2025–2026 year, of which 94 were new businesses.
Public safety and training: The fire department responded to 288 calls in August; there were no structure fires in the city during the month. The fire marshal completed 29 initial inspections and 9 re-inspections, and six firefighters attended grant-funded rope rescue training in Morgantown. The police department responded to just over 2,000 calls for service; Officers Gunnar Allison and Country Young began their second week at the West Virginia State Police Academy.
Public works and utilities: Public Works supported the Italian Heritage Festival and will begin the city paving program the next day. Sewer crews continue to perform emergency repairs as lines break; staff reminded residents not to flush baby wipes or “flushable” wipes because they do not dissolve and can cause sewer blockages.
