Randy Fox, representing the Auburn DeKalb Executive Airport board, briefed the DeKalb County Council on the airport's operations, infrastructure work and branding at the Aug. 13 meeting.
Fox said the airport adopted a new logo and will continue to operate as Auburn DeKalb Executive Airport; ownership and operational control are unchanged. The taxiway reconstruction is behind schedule after engineers found inadequate compaction under the existing concrete and ordered rework, but Fox said the contractor is progressing and the airport expects to complete the taxiway this year. Runway and taxiway closures are handled through FAA notices to airmen (NOTAMs), and Fox recounted a near miss when a pilot ignored a closure notice but no one was hurt.
The airport is replacing legacy lighting with LED fixtures, which Fox said will reduce maintenance and energy costs. He also reported a 0.05% decrease in the airport's levy for the coming year and noted higher insurance costs were absorbed without a large levy increase.
For activity, Fox presented July operations: 1,673 takeoffs and landings, with business jets, helicopters and multi‑ and single-engine aircraft contributing to fuel revenue.
Fox invited council members to tour the facility and attend a board meeting with lunch planned for the coming Friday.
