The DeKalb County Council approved a supplemental appropriation of $16,000 for the public defender on May 14 to pay for Axon Justice cloud storage used for discovery.
Council staff explained the requested amount ($15,959.60) is a prorated cost covering May 1 through the end of the year and that the expense was not included in the 2024 budget. The request was identified as Fund 1200, Account 32780, account title “other service fees.” Staff noted the cost will be included in the 2026 budget as a recurring expense.
Councilman Rick Ring moved to approve the additional appropriation; Amy Prosser seconded the motion. The council voted in favor and the chair declared the motion carried. Meeting discussion clarified the purchase will be used by two departments (the public defender and the prosecutor’s office) and that the public defender would receive 40% of the benefit identified in the packet. No amendment to the appropriation was recorded at the meeting.
