Council approves provisional hires for dispatcher and patrol officer

The Central City Council on Aug. 26 approved two provisional hires: Ashley Durbin as a dispatcher and Cody Countryman as a patrol officer.
Council Member Laverne moved to approve the provisional hire of Ashley Durbin; Council Member Roy seconded. Michelle, a city staff member, said Durbin “started her law enforcement career at Baton Rouge Police Department in 2016,” had served as a school resource officer in East Feliciana and had been training in the dispatch role. The council approved the hire by roll call.
For the patrol position, Council Member Roy moved to approve the provisional hire of Cody Countryman and Council Member McKinney seconded. Michelle said Countryman is POST-certified, has four years of law-enforcement experience, formerly worked for the Baton Rouge Police Department, is currently a deputy at East Feliciana, has no criminal history and cleared background checks. Staff said Countryman was at another council meeting and would begin shift work the following day. The council approved that hire by roll call.
