RIVERTON, Wyo. — A local salon owner who received half‑percent economic development tax funding updated Riverton City Council on Aug. 5 about how she used the grant and on the business’s early performance.
Staff introduced the owner, Lisa, who told the council she was awarded $86,318 from the half‑percent economic development program. She said “all but about $29,000 of that was spent before we even opened,” and that money paid for equipment, remodeling, additional rooms added after the building permit, and other startup costs. She said the remaining roughly $29,000 was earmarked for parking‑lot work and solar lighting that staff planned to install later in the month.
Lisa said the salon opened June 29. Since opening, she reported salon revenue of $106,000 (not including booth‑rental income) and said the salon has hired staff: she listed 11 people who had been hired at some point, of whom six remained employed at the salon at the time of the meeting and she expected four more to join before the end of the year. She said current staff count is six or seven including herself and that she expects the staffing numbers to fluctuate as is common in salon businesses.
She showed before‑and‑after photos of the building and described improvements: removal of old carpet and installation of new flooring, remodeled bathrooms, and interior build‑outs. She highlighted local contracting and vendors, including landscaping and pest control, and said the salon’s start‑up spending has supported other local businesses.
Council members thanked her for reporting and noted that recipients of the half‑percent funding are expected to report back; staff had invited her to present. A council member said she had checked that the recipient had used the funds as proposed and encouraged the business to keep council updated for the program’s accountability.
