Weber County staff told commissioners on Aug. 25 they will place a short, administrative ordinance on an upcoming agenda to update county code language so it matches a transient room tax (TRT) percentage the commission adopted earlier this year. Cortland Erickson, a county staff member, said the commission previously approved an increase in the TRT rate to match state law but the county code still listed the earlier percentage. "The ordinance that you passed went into effect... but our county code needs to be updated to reflect the change you made a couple months ago in section 34-4-1 and 34-4-3," Erickson said. Why it matters: The change is an administrative cleanup to ensure the codified county ordinance mirrors the rate the commission already approved. Staff characterized the item as noncontroversial and said it will appear on the next commission agenda for formal action. What was discussed: Stephanie Russell, identified on the call, and Erickson said the draft ordinance edits only update code references; no new tax increase or policy change was being proposed at the work session. Erickson said the ordinance had been prepared and would be presented at the commission meeting scheduled for the following day. Next steps: Staff will present the cleanup ordinance at the next commission meeting; the work session record shows unanimous support among the commissioners present for placing the item on the agenda. No final adoption occurred during the work session.
