District facilities staff told trustees that major construction and renovation projects across Northwest ISD are advancing and that several sites will receive furniture and other finishes over the summer.
The district reported that work at Northwest High School is in its final phases, including athletic facility renovations, a new practice room for the Sidekicks program, a cosmetology area moving from Steele and a kitchen/cafeteria expansion to support the campus moving to 6A competition. The administration building's exterior plaza and landscaping are substantially complete and interior finishes such as the boardroom ceiling, lighting and flooring are being installed.
Other projects nearing completion include Prairie View and Justin elementary schools, where furniture deliveries are scheduled to start in mid‑June, and site work for the new distribution center where the fire‑suppression water tank and well are installed. Barstow High School and the district's fourth high school site also advanced: pier drilling and site grading were reported, with nearly 1,900 piers drilled at one high‑school project.
Trustees asked for clarifications about furniture reuse and disposition of retired items; staff said some furniture will be moved to campuses and portables, and excess items will be auctioned because storage capacity is limited. The construction team noted that tear‑off and roof replacement work will be weather dependent and urged contingency planning for any rain delays.
The district plans to continue providing updates as punch‑list items, landscaping and final inspections complete over the summer.
