The Northwest ISD Board of Trustees approved an update to local policy EFB (library materials) required by Senate Bill 13 and voted to establish a school library advisory council. Administration said the policy complies with the statute's required elements on library acquisitions and that the advisory council will implement additional local procedures.
During the meeting administrators noted the policy is required to be adopted before the school year begins; trustees then nominated and approved a slate of parents and employees to serve on the advisory council. Appointees included Amanda Conley (parent), Britney Bragg (employee), Lauren Smith (parent), Stephanie Leslie (parent), with Desiree Pignatelli and Jamie Eichenberry designated as alternates, and Natalie Spann named as an employee member.
The board approved the policy update and the council appointments in a single consent motion. Administrators said the advisory council will advise on acquisition processes established in the policy; specific council procedures and membership terms will be posted once finalized.
